Uncommon Poem
by Heide Brown
Monday, October 8, 2012

Commoners are not “common”.
There’s nothing “common” about Commoners
except for the place and values
they hold in common.

Some of the Commoners
are so uncommon
that they can be seen most days
at the Commons.

Dedication is a common trait
of Commoners
bringing them back
month after month
week after week
day after day

to Commons meetings
to community events
to Commons projects
to Commons work-bees

rain
sleet
hail
heat

all year long, and
another thing
they have in common –
they’re always smiling.

And so am I

as I thank the Universe
for allowing me
to be the conduit
of this uncommon poem.
