Gabriola Rescue of Wildlife Society (GROWLS) made almost $2,000 at a “Jail or Bail” booth at the Sept. 16 fall fair at the Commons.

Reporting on the results of the day, GROWLS member Liz Ciocea said Corporal Trevor MacKay pulled in a large part of that income on his own, netting around $600 for the education and wild animal rescue program. Corporal MacKay “came in on his day off to assist GROWLS’ fundraising by going to the GROWLS’ jail”, said Ciocea. “He had been collecting pledges to pay his bail and many folks pledged even further to keep him in jail”.

“GROWLS would like to thank all the wonderful folks who participated in ‘Jail or Bail’ by soliciting pledges or made a pledge to GROWLS”, said Ciocea. “We all know what a generous and supportive island we call home . A great GRR-R-ROWLY thank you, Gabriola”.

The fair was kicked off with a parade, and was well-stocked with displays, booths, and Gabriolans.
