Dear Editor,
This is something perhaps most Gabriolans don’t know about Nanaimo City Councillor, FRED PATTJE, who writes that he supports Sheila Malcolmson’s TIRELESS workshop efforts to prevent increased oil tanker traffic on the Coast.
Ann Buttrick
Hello Ann,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, opinion, and concerns about increased oil tanker traffic along our very special and pristine coastline.
Over the last while I have had the opportunity to take part in some workshops organised by Sheila Malcolmson, the Gabriola trustee on the Island Trust, who is doing absolutely stellar work where it pertains to the prevention of increased oil tanker traffic and I fully support her efforts.
Sheila asked me, some time ago, to help her put pressure on the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) executive to allow for similar workshops as the ones she conducted, with great success, last spring at the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities convention in Ucluelet – something which I was glad to do.
Rest assured that I will be doing as much as I can to ensure that A8 passes when we convene in Victoria at the end of this month.
Regards,
Fred Pattje
Councillor
City of Nanaimo
Ed Note: ‘Resolution A8’ calls for the UBCM to oppose an expansion of oil tanker traffic off the coast of BC, and to urge the Province to do whatever it can to stop an increase in oil tanker traffic.
