Hello, Baby ‘brilliantly performed’

Hello, Baby, written and all characters performed with brilliant perfection by Lucas Myers, had this reviewer daunted and scrambling to find sixteen ways in which to proclaim this funny, wonderfully witty, insightful, well-written, sparkling, funky, great, marvelous, and refreshing play. Ah, but that’s only nine ways to describe this delightful (good, number ten! I’m getting there) play.

Audience interaction and participation at the Aug. 18 Theatre Festival event would claim number eleven spot. Hello, Baby featured a “Diaper Derby”, with four contestants drawn from the audience. Their performance in changing diapers, on life-like dolls and, for a real challenge, a stuffed monkey, was voted upon by audience applause.

Another hilarious highlight was the “fitness” dance number, again with four men from the audience strutting, shaking, and shimmying their stuff to the raucous roars and hoots of laughter from an appreciative audience.

I especially enjoyed Cliv’s hip-hop song, telling of a father’s frantic efforts to satisfy the demanding, finicky appetites of his children while also trying to ensure appropriate nutritional content in the meals he provided. Yes, Cliv, I agree: it is indeed a fight, fight, fight!!!

Three gold stars bestowed with a beaming smile!
