Capt. Carl E. Nelson, who died in April, was honoured at an Aug. 19 celebration, hosted by his stepchildren, Gina Gallagher and Don Lucas.

The son of Mary Silva and Fritz Nelson, Carl was proud of his island heritage. So it was fitting that attendees included families known to him since childhood: Easthom, Gray, McDonald, and Meyer, with Fred Withey sending greetings from hospital.

Shipmates and friends from his adult years also raised a toast.

The venue, Page’s Resort and Marina on Silva Bay, is one of many Gabriola places where Capt. Carl  will be remembered.
