Dear Editor,
I’ve almost had an accident three times this past week while westbound on North Road and trying to turn into the left turn lane on North Road to go into Folklife Village. On three separate occasions, I found myself turning into oncoming traffic! Drivers came from the direction of the ferry/South Road and drove through the left turn lane as if it was their straight-through lane.
The problem is the faded lines on the road – drivers don’t see a designated left-turn lane. As I understand it, this is not the responsibility of EMCON.
I have called Road Hazard Reporting and told them the problem, but apparently all that happens with Road Hazards is they fax something to EMCON on Gabriola. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is the answer. Perhaps more people could call them, and then we’ll get some lines painted!
Thanks Liz. Good idea! MOTI Operations Manager Johnathan Tillie’s phone number is 250-751-3287. ~ Ed
