“MAMMA MIA, WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE, TAKE A CHANCE ON ME” on Aug. 9.

As you might deduce from the title, the Gabriola Lions will hold its 16th Annual Concert on the Green on Thursday, August 9 at the Gabriola Golf Club.

This year we’re delighted to present, back by popular demand, ABRA CADABRA and the music of ABBA. 

ABRA CADABRA performed on our stage four years ago and everyone had a great time.  Ever since we have been asked to have them back – so, here you go.

With over 1,300 people expected to attend, the Concert on the Green is the Gabriola Lions Club’s major fundraising event of the year.  This event helps the Lions help Gabriolans.  Net proceeds from the concert are used along with other money raised by the Gabriola Lions for many purposes – since the last concert we have invested over $60,000 in the community.  Some of the recipients include the new Gabriola Medical Centre, the Gabriola Elementary School for lunch programs and equipment, the Gathering Place, the Commons, the Gabriola 4-H Club, the Christmas Spirit dinner, the Christmas Bureau food voucher program, Cats Alive and GROWLS, and many others.  As well the club funds scholarships and bursaries for Gabriola students, provides taxi service for Gabriola seniors unable to drive, cleans roadways and provides free firewood to those who really need it. 

So, this is one of those deals where, by attending, you can help fellow Gabriolans AND have a great time while doing it.

The opening act will be COUNTRY GREEN, a new band of five extremely talented Gabriolan musicians comprising Marilyn Smith, Toni Gradanti, Brad Shipley, Mike Mead, and John Bryson.

Tickets are $15.  Children 12 and under FREE.  Tickets are available from any Lion or at Artworks, Colleen’s, Silva Bay Liquor Store, Gabriola Health Clinic, Gabriola Golf Club, The Visitor Centre, Wild Rose Garden Centre, Twin Cedars Veterinary Services, Wheelbarrel Nursery, or at the Concert.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream, and popcorn will be available.  And, there will be a beer garden as well.  There is ample parking for everyone, and handicap parking is available.

Bring a blanket or lawn chairs (and your dancing shoes) and have a great time!
