Public process improves results

Dear Editor,

Regarding DJ Chris Walker’s letter to the editor concerning the  Cortes Community Radio service which said we should “keep it simple stupid” (Flying Shingle July 16, 2012):

The Gabriola Radio Society’s position to establish the station was to follow a process of public involvement which (like poking a stick in a wasp nest), may be uncomfortable for some and more time-consuming, but will improve the end result.

Merely setting up a pirate station might be the easy way to go, yes, and fine for the Cortes Island community, but our signal reaches outside of the community, the province and the country, so requires more consideration and public process.

We followed an open public process and I hope the society continues to do so after I am no longer president.
