Dear Premier Clark,
I am writing today about your response to the report on the Enbridge spill into the Kalamazoo River by the US National Transportation Safety Board. First, it was good to hear you tell the citizens of BC that “the results of that report are completely unacceptable”.
You also said, however, that “… I think Enbridge has some pretty important questions to answer” (Quoted in the July 12 Globe & Mail) . This statement worries me. Asking Enbridge ‘some pretty important questions’ is like asking an alcoholic ‘Do you promise not to drink anymore?’ Or asking an abuser, ‘Do you promise not to hit me again if I come back to you?’
No questions need to be asked. Simply look at the history of the alcoholic or the abuser. That’s where the truth lies – not in empty promises to do better.
