If Alberta must smoke, it best not exhale in BC

Dear Editor,

Re: your question proposed on Page 1 of your June 18 edition, please allow me to express my opinion that I am adamantly opposed to the mere suggestion of any pipeline to convey the output of Alberta’s tar sands oil across BC to a Pacific coast shipment point.

Our current ongoing experience with the horrendous mess resulting from the Exxon Valdez disaster should serve as sufficient warning that oil spills can and do occur and when they inevitably do, the oil companies will carry out the briefest possible remedial measures and then flee the scene and leave the province of BC faced with the ongoing costs of the ensuing cleanup that could continue for some years.

In conclusion, Alberta is welcome to seek out any avenue of getting their oil to market – just don’t even consider passing it across British Columbia.
