‘Come Alive’ video speaks for itself
by Rachel Davey, Executive Director, the Haven
Monday, July 9, 2012

A new video launched by the Haven which can be found on the homepage of their website (www.haven.ca) features people speaking very personally about their experience at ‘Come Alive’, the often life-changing program that The Haven has offered for some 30 years.

“Even though every participant came for their own reasons, from diverse backgrounds, and with very different expectations, each one found something they could take back and use to make a difference in their lives”, says Rachel Davey, the Haven’s Executive Director.

Come Alive is a five-day experiential workshop created by the Haven’s founders Jock McKeen and Bennet Wong and now facilitated by a diverse group of Haven faculty. The participants too come from a wide range of backgrounds.

“Everyone has such a unique experience when they come to Come Alive, especially considering the range of ages and backgrounds that we typically get … it’s difficult to describe in one short statement”, said Davey. “You could have a 19-year-old college student sitting next to a middle-aged homemaker, or a young entrepreneur next to a 70-year-old retired forestry worker, so the group dynamic is different every time. But what is very consistent is the depth of connection that people experience during Come Alive”.

Rather than try to explain an experience that is different for every participant, the video lets the participants speak for themselves. It gives a taste of what thousands of people, over 30 years, have gained from the Haven experience and may help others decide that Come Alive may be just what they’re looking for.
