Public eye needed to ensure fair trial
by Ted Wilson
Monday, July 2, 2012

Dear Editor,

Bradley Manning, the US Army soldier who sent all those classified e-mails to WikiLeaks, is facing Court Martial in September. It is important to keep his name in the public eye to ensure coverage of what’s sure to be an historic case with far-reaching implications for journalists, activists, and whistleblowers.

Since Day One, it’s been an uphill battle for the defence as the government’s game of secrecy has been permitted to continue without restraint. The defence’s efforts to dismiss the ‘aiding the enemy’ charge, dismiss all charges, and compel critical witness testimony, have been met with a failure that only affirms and emboldens government secrecy.
