by Gabriola Chamber Ensemble
Monday, June 25, 2012

nsemble is pleased to announce that on July 8 a renowned Mexican choir “Los Cantantes del Lago” will perform at the Community Hall on Gabriola.

There will be 31 singers and they are on tour after having participated in Kathaumixw, the international choral festival held in Powell River every two years since 1984.

Gabriola choirs have sponsored choirs from Kathaumixw several times, and they have always been well received.

Los Cantantes del Lago is a community choir from Chapala, situated just south of Guadalajara, on the shores of beautiful Lake Chapala, Mexico’s largest lake. The choir’s conductor is Timothy Ruff Welch, a choir director, organist, voice coach and soloist. He is originally from Wisconsin.

The choir truly represents the international nature of their community: choir members hail from Mexico, Canada, the USA, and several European countries, and a few Mexican youth are on tour with them. The full choir has 70 singers and performs in a wide range of musical styles, from classical and sacred, to spirituals, popular, and folk music.

Many Gabriolans have opened their homes to host the singers who will be on the island from Sunday afternoon, July 8 to Monday noon.

The concert is on Sunday, July 8, 7:30 pm at the Community Hall. Tickets are $15 for one or $25 for family, and are for sale at Artworks and at the door.

Arrive at the concert early to get a good seat. You will be in for a treat. The concert is being sponsored by the Gabriola Chamber Ensemble.
