Gabriola gun club neighbours have filed a civil suit against the decades-old community organisation and the Province.
According to a source who wished to remain anonymous, the suit alleges that the Gabriola Rod, Gun and Conservation Club (GRGCC) is an “ongoing nuisance”. In a Notice of Civil Claim obtained by the Shingle, the neighbours also allege the club interferes with enjoyment of their property, and has caused other mental, emotional, and financial “damage”.
The claim also names the Province in the suit, and asks for an “interim and permanent injunction” against club activities. Online legal sources explain a ‘permanent injunction’ would require that the club refrain from their activities permanently or until they have performed in a certain way, such as to correct a nuisance.
A notice to the club’s membership, received Friday by the Shingle, said the GRGCC executive can make no comment on the “ongoing legal matter”. Neighbours of the club, and natural resources Director Myles Mana, were also unavailable for comment before press time.
