Open letter to the gun club, and Mr. Myles Mana:
If I am reading the proposed gun club noise abatement plan and the local newspapers correctly, it is your understanding that the area affected by ongoing nuisance noise from the gun club is confined to an area south to southwest of the club’s leased property. You have asked for more information if anyone living outside this area is affected by persistent gun club noise.
As I have advised Mr. Mana previously, my property is located three kilometres away from the club in a straight line to the northeast. Large calibre rifle and shotgun fire is clearly audible from my property and has been persistently annoying for the full nine years I have lived here. It also remains audible from the Whalebone area. I hope this gives you a greater understanding of the impact that gun club activities have on a much larger area of Gabriola than the neighbouring residents’ properties, although they of course suffer by far the greatest discomfort from gun club activities.
I have not complained previously to you about the persistent gun club noise that reaches my property on a regular basis, but I certainly have thought of it many times. However, since you are now taking action to abate the noise impact of your club, I am now bringing to your attention the fact that your club’s noise has disturbed me and my visitors for a long time, and continues to do so, most recently on the last holiday long weekend.
I urge you to be mindful that in fact the current noise is much further ranging than you apparently believe, and for both the club and the Province to ensure that noise mitigation is sufficient to address all properties currently affected by the noise.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
