Local elected representatives Saturday announced their decision to allow local artists to paint four power poles on the ferry hill on South Road.
In a letter to the Gabriola Arts Council (GAC) and BC Hydro’s Ted Olynyk, Trustees Sheila Malcolmson and Gisele Rudischer and Regional Director Howard Houle said: “By the June 6 deadline we had received over 250 submissions, with the majority in support … that the four hydro poles on the ferry hill be painted as proposed by the Gabriola Arts Council in the May 28 newspaper advertisements”.
As previously reported, Olynyk asked the elected reps to decide whether to allow the pole painting when some Gabriolans objected to a dearth of community consultation about the project.
The reps also said GAC will go through a separate approval process for pole painting plans in other Gabriola neighbourhoods.
